I had the chance to stay at the Janor and the Willows this summer – both times for multiple nights. I'd recommend both.
The Janor is a lovely guest house with a common kitchen - great for making your own meals and meeting other travellers in Fort Simpson. I was in a room with a shared bathroom, and enjoyed my time there - everything was very clean and welcoming. The Willows is a lovely Inn. I recouped from a 3-week paddle down the Nahanni here, and the hot shower and lovely bed were truly appreciated.
Room Tip: If you're staying at the Janor, they also have rooms with en suite bathrooms, instead of shared. If you're like me, it's worth the extra $$ for these rooms.

I stayed at the Janor B&B and found it extremely clean, quiet, and well updated. The bedding was at par with a 5 star hotel in Edmonton! Internet and HD satellite are available. Leah even surprised us with a home made rhubarb/strawberry cake. The next weekend I returned for work purposes and stayed in the Willows. I did prefer the Willows as it is more private with TV, mini fridge, and brand new bathroom facilities. Again, the bed was incredible comfortable and the room is extremely clean.
I would definitely recommend either of these hotels, but if you prefer total privacy, book the Willows.
Room Tip: Call in advance as this little town surprisingly fills up quickly!

I've travelled to Fort Simpson quite a few times since my first visit in 1994 and have stayed in a variety of places in the community. On a recent trip (March 2014) stayed at Janor Guest House and was very impressed with the whole set-up from check in (yep, it's informal!) to the comfy and surprisingly quiet room (with en suite bathroom no less!). As others have said - great common living room, dining room, and kitchen - and there's even a treadmill and exercise bike in the basement, along with washer and dryer. Wireless Internet throughout and a couple of computers available for anyone that doesn't travel with their own Internet connection. Have also stayed in many other communities in the NWT over 19 years living & working in the north - wish there were more Janor's out there! Would definitely recommend.
Room Tip: Ask for one of the en suite rooms - some have a bathroom/shower and some don't.
